A Case of Type Tf Hyperlipoproteinemia Associated with Cutaneous Xanthomatosis

Abstract
Hyperlipoproteinemia is characterized by various kinds of cutaneous xanthomatosis, coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis due to increasing lipoprotein fraction of the serum.
We have experienced one case of hyperlipoproteinemia consists with cutaneous xanthomas and diabetes mellitus in forty-nine year old Korean woman. Her skin lesions showed tuberous xanthomas on both elbows, both knees and both wrists area. In addition, tendinous xanthomas on both Achilles tendons and xanthochromia striatum palmare on both palms were also observed.
The laboratory examinations showed turbid plasma which had been kept standing at 4¡ÆC for 24 hours, increased serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and fasting blood sugar level with abnormal glucose tolerance curve. On agarose electrophoresis of lipoprotein showed widening of prebeta band.
Histopathology of right elbow lesion showed characteristic xanthoma findings except Touton¢¥s giant cell.
She was treated with clofibrate and also antidiabetic remedy.
